Steve Gilbert – Executive Director
Steve is a graduate of the University of Montevallo with a B.S. in Mass Communications and a minor in Business Administration. He and his wife Rene have made Montevallo their home since 1989.
Prior to working for the Chamber, he co-founded The Cable Advantage, Inc., a cable television advertising company that provided advertising and related technical services for Comcast, AT&T, and Charter Communications. Steve has produced, edited, and provided the voice-over talent for countless radio and television spots. He still enjoys getting behind the microphone and produces a weekly internet radio show, “Sunday Morning Coffee,” from his home studio.
An avid music enthusiast, Steve has been actively involved in the entertainment and outdoor festival business for over 20 years. He organized and managed the Brierfield Music Festival and has produced events such as Columbiana’s Liberty Day Celebration and Alabaster City Fest. Steve currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Montevallo Arts Council and The Montevallo Main Street Players.
Cheryl Patton – President
Calvin Dreon Meadows, CFSP, is a native of Montevallo and graduated from Montevallo High School in 2000. He attended Jefferson State Community College in the Funeral Service Mortuary Program. Calvin received his Funeral Director’s License with the Alabama Board of Funeral Service in 2006. Calvin remained in Montevallo working his family owned business at the Good Shepherd Funeral Home. Calvin earned his Certified Funeral Service Practitioner (CFSP) designation with the Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice in 2013.
He served as a Camp Counselor for the Pelham YMCA from 2006-2007. Calvin is a member of Present – Truth Church in Montevallo and works with the video department and the music ministry. He is also a member of the Montevallo Art Possee, the National Funeral Directors & Directors & Morticians Association, the Alabama Funeral Directors Association and the Alabama Funeral Directors and Morticians Association where he presently serves as Sergeant At Arms.
Tom Sanders – Secretary
Dr. Tom J. Sanders is Associate Professor of Management in the Stephens College of Business at the University of Montevallo. He currently teaches organization and management theory, leadership, and human resources management in the undergraduate program and human resources and organizational development in the MBA program.
Prior to his academic career he served for three decades as an executive in the health care industry – primarily with a ten thousand person integrated health care delivery system that operated multiple hospitals, ambulatory care, long term care, and managed care programs. During his tenure he served as a hospital administrator, corporate vice president, senior vice president, and chief administrative officer of the health system.
Sanders has a Master of Science in Health Administration (MSHA) from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB); an MBA from Samford University in Birmingham; and a Ph.D. from UAB with concentrations in strategic management and healthcare management and he completed a doctoral major in organizational behavior at the University of Alabama (Tuscaloosa). His primary research interests are in the areas of adoption and diffusion of human capital innovations in strategic management, workforce policy in human resources management, leadership effectiveness, and management history and education. Sanders is an active researcher with several dozen scholarly presentations and publications since coming into academia, including publications in the Business Journal for Entrepreneurs, Journal of Case Research in Business and Economics, Journal of Management and Marketing Research, Journal of Healthcare Management among others. He has also received several academic awards for his research papers and presentations and the UM Graduate Teaching Award.
A native of Montevallo, Nathan graduated from Shelby Academy in 1983 and attended the University of Montevallo. Throughout his career, Nathan has worked at various local businesses including a local service station and game room. He has worked in the printing industry, sold life insurance, and done lawn maintenance. Nathan began his career in real estate in 1992 for Century 21 in Montevallo. In 1997, he opened his own company, Stamps Realty on North Boundary Street, where he continued in the real estate business until 2010 before joining Team Massey Properties in Pelham.
Nathan enjoys writing songs and recording music. He still lives in, loves, and sells real estate in Montevallo.
Edna Felton – Board Member
Edna Felton currently serves as Business Office Manager for the Alabama Power offices located in Calera and Columbiana in Birmingham Division. She began her career with Alabama Power in 1996 as a Customer Service Representative in Tuscaloosa in Western Division. Edna progressed through jobs in increasing responsibility, including Customer Service Supervisor in the Tuscaloosa Business Office, Revenue Accounting Analyst, Metro South and Metro Central Assistant Business Office Manager and Leeds Business Office Manager.
Edna earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Alabama in 1995 with a major in English and a minor in Spanish. In May 2003, she received a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Alabama’s Culverhouse College of Commerce Executive MBA program. Edna is a graduate of the APC Career Development Class, Leadership Shelby County, Project Corporate Leadership and Leadership St. Clair County.
Currently, Edna serves as a board member for the Montevallo Chamber of Commerce, the South Shelby Chamber of Commerce and the Montevallo Boys and Girls Club and Teen Center.
Edna is also a veteran of the United States Army and served in Operation Desert Storm. Edna and her husband, William, have a son, William IV, and two adult daughters, Epiphany and Elexes.
